Chekhov, the Grotesque and the Fantastical II with Tom Bostock

Following our Spring 2018 workshop on Chekhov and the Grotesque, we are holding a second instalment of this workshop as promised. You do not need to have attended the first workshop to join this session. Enter into the realms of the grotesque, caricature and the fantastical with Tom Bostock, from Gruff Theatre and the Chekhov Collective. This workshop is suitable for performers interested in extreme character transformation and physicalizing fantastical worlds. The workshop will explore themes, images, atmospheres and characters from Mervyn Peake’s gothic fantasy: Gormenghast.

Gruff are well-known for their sharp satirical eye and for developing larger-than-life characters out of the relationship to site. Tom will share elements of their process and lead participants playfully and safely to expand beyond their everyday self.  New and returning participants are warmly welcomed to explore this workshop. No previous knowledge of Gormenghast or Chekhov technique is necessary.
