Chekhov and the Singing Voice — with Deb Garvey

Deborah Garvey is delighted to return to TCC to explore how various Chekhov principles can be applied to the sung voice to open up possibilities for tapping into its expressive potential. The workshop is suitable for anyone wishing to explore their sung voice in a supportive, non- judgemental learning environment. Please choose and bring along a memorised, short unaccompanied traditional/folk song and wear comfortable clothing.

Deborah’s early training as an actor and singer informs her work as a voice, singing and dialect coach.  She has an MA in Voice Studies from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and was subsequently on the faculty there for six years as Lecturer in Voice before joining the voice team on the BA Acting programme at RADA in 2019.  Deborah is also a Designated Linklater Teacher and a fellow of the Higher Education Authority.  She has a particular interest in the interplay between the spoken-sung voice and has delivered workshops and papers on this topic in the UK and Europe, most recently in Vilnius and Zagreb. She has participated in Michael Chekhov workshops led by  Sinead Rushe, Gretchen Egolf, Cass Fleming and Marjolein Barrs.   She composes music for the stage and continues to work as a performance artist.
